Alumina producers have resumed production successively after the Chinese New Year holiday due to the price rise for alumina, and they resumed capacity of 5.46 million tons of alumina so far in 2016.
10 May 16 – According to statistics from Asian Metal, China had reduced 9.9 million tons of alumina in capacity between November 2015 and February 2016. Alumina producers have resumed production successively after the Chinese New Year holiday due to the price rise for alumina, and they resumed capacity of 5.46 million tons of alumina so far in 2016.

The table above shows that producers in Shandong have resumed 3.46 million tons of alumina in capacity so far this year, ranking first. Producers in Guizhou resumed capacity of 2.4 million tons, ranking second, and those in Henan resumed capacity of 600,000t with an expectation that they will further resume capacity of 600,000t in mid May.
Prices for alumina continued to move up in early May and market paticipants expected that the total capacity resumed by producers will reach6.2 million tons.
