Indian Diamond Firms Raided On Customs Changes

Five firms operating in the largest diamond manufacturing center in the world were raided by Indian tax officials, on suspicion of attempting to evade customs fees, Rough and Polished reports. Forces from the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence barged in on five Surat diamond companies after they had gleaned that the firms may have imported synthetic diamond powder. The powder is generally during the production of medical equipment.

During the operation, approximately 350 kilograms of the substance in question were said to be seized by Indian officials. A number of diamond companies operating in Varachha and Katargam are thought to also be under investigation by the state for the same infractions, according to Rough and Polished.
