Domestic Alumina Manufacturers Tend to Adopt Imported Bauxite Resources

According to the survey, at present, domestic industrial alumina manufacturers increasingly tend to adopt imported bauxite resources for smelting, which are mainly imported from Australia, Malaysia, India and other countries. And the imports from Malaysia comes in second place, up to 9.87 million tons.

It is reported that Malaysia extends bauxite mining ban for three months, which goes into effect since April 15. It is likely to cut aluminum production raw material inventory of China and other countries. Indonesia’s banned policies in mining lead to the procurement difficulty of domestic alumina manufacturers, which will produce certain effect for supporting higher aluminum prices.

At present, China must rely on bauxite from Australia. In the first quarter of 2016, domestic imported bauxite from Australian is about 3.9902 million tons, with 19.2% year-on-year decline, including the imported quantity 1.7344 million tons in March. From customs data, we can see that domestic aluminum ore sand imports from Australian remain above 1 million tons, and the quantity and unit price show fluctuations by leaps and bounds.

Now , the aluminum ingots price is basically stabilized, and many manufacturers are positive for shipment, so domestic aluminum prices have strong support. At present, the aluminum prices bring positive factors, but industrial alumina has not greeted a buying spree. The oversupply situation in the market is difficult to break in a short period of time. The "rigid demand" is still unchanged mode of operation in this industry.

With the widening fluctuation region of aluminum ingots and aluminum prices, traders are cautious when purchasing goods. Because the upstream and downstream trading activity has a certain lag, the market prices of industrial alumina will not have bigger change in a short time.

According to the data, the prevailing prices of domestic industrial alumina (particle size: 80-120 mesh; Al2O3≥98.6%) are as follows: The factory price including tax of industrial alumina is around 2050-2300 RMB/ton in Henan, and in Shangdong, their prices are about 2100-2200 RMB/ton.
