China National Silicon Steel Engineering Technology Research Center at WISCO

Ministry of Science and Technology of the People Republic of China announced that China National Silicon Steel Engineering Technology Research Center has formally settled in Wuhan Steel. 

After three years of operations, 8 industry standards are created and 21 patents are gained by this national research center.

Cold rolled silicon steel especially for oriented silicon steel is called as the “Flower of Industrial Art” for its most complicated craft, longest production process, highest technology content and most difficult technique, representing a nation’s steel industry development level.

This research center was launched on a trial basis in WISCO dates back to early 2008. From 2008 to 2011, WISCO has aggregately produced 1.057 million tonnes of oriented silicon steel, including 301,500 tonnes of HiB silicon steel. Thanks to improved quality of domestic HiB steel, the import price of HiB steel dropped to USD 4200 per tonne from USD 4800 per tonne.

Owing to enhanced properties of new product, the iron loss value was averagely down 15 percent. Applied in electric machines and transformers, its operation could last for 4200 hours per year, saving 2.242 billion KWH, equivalent to saving 905,600 tonnes of coal and reducing the emission of 29,000 tonnes of SO2.
