Abrasive belt grinding is a kind of highly efficient, economic, and mutifunctional new type grinding process also called "universal grinding", which has the multiple functions, such as grinding and polishing. It also has small surface roughness, less heat on machining surface, good surface integrity and other characteristics. Compared with the traditional abrasive belt, ceramic abrasive belt has not only the "hardness" of superhard materials, but also the "softness" of coated abrasives, whose range of application is also more and more widely.

Researchers select three kinds of different grain sizes of ceramic abrasive belt used for glass fiber reinforced plastics in belt grinding experiment. It analyzes the interaction mechanism between abrasives and the workpieces, the influence of different abrasive belt sizes and dosage of grinding for abrasive belt abrasion and surface roughness, material removal and wear mechanism of abrasive belt, in order to get high efficiency, high quality grinding technology theory and experimental basis, which provides the theory basis for application of ceramic abrasive belt in glass fiber reinforced plastics.

According to the experiment, when the linear velocity of abrasive belt is VS = 25 m/s, grinding pressure F = 56N, particle size P = 180#, it can achieve the best effect.

A. The main factor affecting the workpiece surface roughness is abrasive belt grain size. With the increasing of abrasive belt grain size, the surface roughness will decrease accordingly.

B. When the direction of linear velocity of abrasive belt is different from the direction of glass fiber reinforced plastics, it will produce different grinding crack on the surface. 90 ° angle of grinding is easy to cause the fracture of glass fiber, which will influence the surface quality, and at the same time, constant pressure grinding can have better surface quality than variable pressure grinding.

C. The grinding heat has a great influence on the surface of glass fiber reinforced plastics. When the grinding temperature is too high, it can lead to the softening of resin and fiber burns. The resin bond strength is also reduced.
