In May 2013, Belgium’s polished diamond exports were up 7.7 percent 9on y-o-y basis) to $1.271 billion, reports say. The per carat price rose 12.5 percent to $1,993, reports suggest. In the said month, polished diamond imports increased 27.9 percent to $1.314 billion.
The net polished export stood in a deficit of $43 million (the same was worth $154 million in the same month last year). Imports of rough diamonds dropped 5.4 percent to $1.051 billion, while exports of rough diamonds rose 6.1 percent to $1.221 billion.
The month recorded a rough import deficit of $170 million (the same was a deficit of $40 million in the same month last year).
Net diamond account in the said month, (reflecting the net difference between exports and imports), dropped to $3 million worth of deficit, from a surplus of $194 million in May 2012.
